The Shreveport/Bossier area has the "8-mile rd" syndrome. It consistently ranks low in quality of life surveys because there are basically two populations living in one place. There is a large ... read more unskilled, uneducated, economically disadvantaged group made up of old south redneck whites and old south unmotivated blacks and then there is a more progressive urban educated group that is mostly white but with a rising percentage of black professionals. The city has some excellent public schools but test scores do not reflect that because they are skewered by the performance of the afore mentioned first group. There are no real estate deals in Shreveport-Bossier in the better areas.read less
