Apartment Earth: Reduce Your Apartment's Thirst

You already know that water is a precious resource. But did you know there are a bunch of simple things you can do in your apartment to conserve water? Reduce your apartment's water usage so that it's sipping water, not chugging it.

Showers, Not Baths
A quick shower will save water compared to a bath.

Aerate
You can inexpensively add an aerator to shower heads and faucets. They are easy to install and you won't suffer from lost pressure. You'll simply use less water.

Run Full

If you have a dishwasher, don't run it unless it is totally full. If you wash by hand, do not let water run freely unless into a stopped sink.

Toilet Tamer

Reduce the amount of water you use per flush without a brick. Reset the water level. Or, fill up a large plastic water bottle and place it in your tank. You won't notice the difference but it will add up to water savings.

Balcony Bucket

Collect rainwater on your balcony and use it to water your plants.

Simply by being more mindful of your water use you will use less. Try adding other small behavior choices as well. For example, fill your pet's water dish with water you don't drink. Turn off the faucet while you brush your teeth. Don't take clean drinking water for granted.
