Get a Piece of Martha Stewart in New York

A slew of great handmade craft markets are hitting all corners of New York, starting with Martha's own staff show-and-sell.

That's great news for those looking to get in on the handmade trend this holiday season. Don't you think old-fashioned aunt Rose will finally like your gift if you can tell her about the artisan you bought it from (and supported)? We do.

Here's where to buy local in New York:
  • Martha Stewart's Handmade Craft Sale - Saturday, Dec. 5
Watch out, we predict a line around the block. This year is the first time Mother Martha is opening this artisan and employee-crafter show is open to the public, plus there will be demos of the crafts in the December issue of Martha Stewart Living.
If you can't get into Martha's shin-dig, here are some other great handmade marketplaces set up seasonally where you can snag great holiday gifts.

  • Grand Central Terminal Holiday Fair - now through Dec. 24
In the giant Vanderbilt Hall, 76 choice vendors set up their goods - and these aren't the usual "craft fair" fare, expect some quality gifts. Also, check out the light show in the main concourse.
  • Union Square Park Holiday Market - now through Dec. 24
Red-and-white-striped tents erected at the south end of the park are filled with 100 vendors selling seasonal goods, artisan made pottery, jewelry and more.
  • Brooklyn Flea's Gifted Pop-up Shop - Dec. 2-6, 9-13, then daily Dec. 16-24
The beloved flea market sets up shop across the river in a former Tower Records.
