That actually happened to me. A con artist rented the same house to 6 different families! We started running into one another as we went about moving in. Turns out he had a long history of cons. And theft of services from the electric and gas companies.

A friend inherited a small vacant piece of property directly across the street from Yankee Stadium. He's not a big baseball fan, so he never really visited his little plot. One summer day he and a huge group of friends and family decided to take in a game. Parking wasn't a problem as he owned this quite convenient lot. Imagine his surprise to find 2 young black men in a BOOTH offering him parking for 20 dollars per car on his own property! They ran off when he identified himself and he later found out they'd been making a killing every game day. Guess it pays to visit what you own once in a while!

I wonder how he came to pick this property to use as a scam. Did he know the owner? I have heard that the majority of identity theft is by relatives or close friends. That could be the case here.

Neely is mentally unbalanced. I once dealt with a guy who believed that he had invented an additional component to the PC computer. He advertised the item on the internet and received many checks from well-meaning buyers. While the "inventor" was as educated and smooth as Neely might have been, there WAS NO INVENTION and the guy was prosecuted for fraud and grand larceny. Some folks live in a fantasy bubble and your job is to avoid them.
