Oscar's potential residences are as diverse as the award nominees, from Carey Mulligan's modest North London flat to Jeff Bridges' Montecito manse to Meryl Streep's Tribeca penthouse (left) with Hudson River views.
George Clooney's gorgeous Northern Italian Villa Oleandra in Laglio would be an incredibly scenic backdrop for a second Clooney Oscar for "Up in the Air" – although the blogosphere continues to be a-buzz with rumors of its reported sale. His 2006 Best Supporting Actor statuette for "Syriana," reports Mid-day, is in the library within his 7,000-plus square foot contemporary home just off view-rich Mulholland Drive in Los Angeles. (Britney Spears' was his neighbor-from-hell a few years back).
Best actress nominee and BAFTA-winner Carey Mulligan ("An Education"), may have to choose between locations. In North London, when she's in town, she shares a Holloway-area flat that's owned by her family, says the Daily Mail (left). A dust up with neighbors sent her packing from pricier digs last year. However, these days, these newly actress has also been spotted in the leafy Los Angeles suburb of Encino, Calif. hanging out with boyfriend Shia LeBeouf.
Perhaps five times is the charm for actor Jeff Bridges (best actor, nominee for "Crazy Heart"), who has called Montecito, Calif. home since the 1994 Northridge earthquake damaged his Santa Monica Canyon house. Bridges might place his statuette on the mantle of his Mediterranean style mansion that's perched on a hillside above the Pacific Ocean with stellar views. Surrounded by California Oaks, the woodsy Montecito neighborhood was hit hard by a wildfire in November 2008.
Bridges' "Crazy Heart" co-star and first-time nominee, Maggie Gyllenhaal, would undoubtedly stay true to her indie roots by housing her her first Oscar in her Park Slope brownstone, which she shares with husband, Peter Sarsgaard, and their daughter Ramona.
Morgan Freeman's sprawling Greenwood, Mississippi compound is already home to one Oscar. If he wants to share the gold, the "Invictus" star and producer may also consider a spot behind the bar at his happening Ground Zero Blues Club in nearby Clarksdale, Miss. The club is so successful, there's a Memphis, Tennessee branch as well.
Sandra Bullock ("The Blind Side") and hubby Jesse James share a beach side house in The OC's Sunset Beach, but her palatial 1876-built Garden District New Orleans' Victorian sounds much more Oscar worthy. Per Realestalker, the $2,25 million, 6,615-square foot house oozes period details like pecan wood flooring, carved moldings and marble mantles. The swimming pool and large motor court aren't historic, but seem necessary add-ons for the busy couple. (James earned his TV chops on Discovery Channel's "Monster Garage.")
If Meryl Streep wins her second Oscar, for her portrayal as Julia Child in "Julie and Julia," Oscar could find himself in a room with a Hudson River view. The actress purchased a 3,944-square-foot penthouse in TriBeca's River Lofts building for $8.95 million in summer 2008, reports Curbed NY. Her penthouse crowns a 13-story newly built residential tower that's become a celeb magnet.
