Moby has the nasty divorce of "E" personality Debbie Matenpoulos and Lionsgate Entertainment music-exec Jay Faires to thank for his latest real estate conquest: the musician just snagged a great deal on their Hollywood Hills castle, "Wolf's Lair," according to Luxist.

Moby (born Richard Melville Hall), purchased for $3.9 million this 5,400-square-foot home built by Hollywoodland developer L. Milton Wolf. The musician was no stranger to the Lair: he recorded songs there before under the watchful eye of Faires, founder of Mammoth Records, according to the LA Times.

The home, with 8 bedrooms and 5.5 baths, mostly recently listed at $4.295 million, first went up for sale in 2008 with a lofty $7.5 million price tag. (For a peek inside, see our photo gallery below.) But is it the intention of Moby, a long-time New Yorker, to reside long-term in this home, or sell it in the coming months?
The 44-year-old Grammy winner has plans to refurbish the 1927 castle, which sits on 3.3 acres along with a guest house and a heart-shaped pool, reports the La Times. Although the West Coast paper also reports he plans on moving from the East Coast, HousingWatch isn't so sure this will be a permanent move.

Moby, who has owned a studio apartment in New York's Little Italy since 1991, is known to build or refurbish homes and then sell them a short while later, according to the Realestalker.

He built a 9,000-square-foot minimalist house in upstate New York in the early 2000s, but soon sold it, reported Luxist. Apparently living there "was big and lonely and weird," according to a 2009 interview in Magnet magazine. In 2005 he purchased a five-floor, 2-bedroom apartment in New York City's Central Park West neighborhood for $4.5 million, reported Luxist. After more than a year on the market, Moby sold the home with a view for $6.7 million.

One thing can be gleaned from his past purchases: Moby knows how to sell at a profit. Some Hollywood denizens and starlets could learn a thing or two from him.
