Hip-hop artist Kanye West's Hollywood Hills home is for sale and from the look of it, West took a page from Michael Jackson's Neverland Ranch. That, or, Pee Wee Herman was hired to decorate the hip-hop artist's home.
The musical man-child has been spending much of his time in Diamond Head, Hawaii, where he has a home and recording studio. While he's been toiling away on his next album, "Good Ass Job"
(slated to drop next month), West listed his 7882 Fareholm Drive
home last week with Alexander Davis of Hilton & Hyland for a modest -- by Kanye West standards -- $3,995,000. And boy is it surprising.
West's place is cartoonish with Jetsonian art, Warhol soup cans, and a big vintage Louis Vuitton trunk. The three-bedroom, 4,214-square-foot Desiderata Design
home was built in 2002 by a "renowned Italian architectural designer" (Claudio Silvestrin
) and absolutely reeks of West's futuristic pop-art phase. A longtime fan of Takashi Murakami
, whom he collaborated with for his "Graduation" album, it looks like West gave his intern carte blanche
to raid a Murakami backlot and plop the finds into his home.
The listing images of West's place also show West has mad love for a full-size Buzz Lightyear of "Toy Story" fame. The character is but one conversation piece in West's crib, which then leaves the fish-tank backing the bathtub no real big surprise.
West is a master juxtaposer. His hypercolor, David LaChappelle-esque Pop Art aesthetic produces the measured contrasts that fans enjoy in his music. Besides post-modern plastic furniture, there's a fresco on the dining room ceiling that contradicts the earth-toned minimalism of the overall space.
The listing boasts "brilliant lighting schemes" along with some impressive technology -- the entire property is wired with built-in computers, and naturally there are cameras everywhere.
Alas, no pool, but there is a theater. And of course no hip-hop artist can live without a large dressing room and West doesn't disappoint.
The large windows offer up some excellent sweeping city viewage, as 7882 Fareholm Drive is located on a hill above Los Angeles, allowing for plenty of privacy and temper-tantrum space.
