Meg Ryan Rents NYC Apartment in New Glass Building for $25G

Meg Ryan rents New York Soho apartment for $25,000 a monthThe website for 40 Mercer Residences in New York City's Soho neighborhood claims to be "Soho's Ultimate Residence," and apparently Meg Ryan agrees. The movie star is reported to have signed a lease for a three-bedroom, 3 1/2-bathroom unit for $25,000 a month. With over 2,500 square feet of living space in the apartment, the new glass building designed by architect Jean Nouvel and developer Andre Balazs features a 50-foot lap pool, sauna and 24-hour concierge service.

Why is Ryan renting?

Perhaps for a little flexibility. Ryan has been in the news a lot over the past summer for her real estate, however it's mostly been for her properties in California and Massachusetts. As we reported here, Ryan was in the news for her 6,900-square-foot Bel Air, Calif. home, which she listed at $19.5 million in 2008 and reduced to 14.2 million in 2009. The property was pulled from the market and listed as a rental for $40,000 a month this past August.

Elle Decor profiled the actress' remodeled Martha's Vineyard home earlier this summer.

While Ryan and other 40 Mercer residents live in one of the world's best neighborhoods for nightlife, it doesn't mean they will necessarily venture into it: The building has a private bar and lounge.
