Foreclosure Mess Draws FBI's Interest

Did the financial industry break any laws when it bungled numerous foreclosure cases? The Federal Bureau Investigation aims to find out, according to federal law enforcement official who spoke to the Associated Press.

The agency is in the early stages of investigating whether industry operatives had criminal objectives or were just awash in a sea of foreclosures and ill-equipped to deal with them.

Meanwhile, the major banks are trying to move on, claiming that their paperwork issues have been resolved. The White House also has been quick to assure the public that the problem is not "systemic." Don't shoot, G-men, don't shoot!
