Kelly Clarkson's Nashville Real Estate Blues

Pop sensation Kelly Clarkson was the first winner of "American Idol" to hit major stardom, but she's not the first celeb to take a loss on her home. The Grammy-winning singer recently listed her Nashville manor for $1.45 million, slightly less than the $1.49 million she paid in 2007.

Referring to the asking price of Clarkson's modest-looking stone abode, Perez Hilton writes on his blog, "Would U pay $1.5 million for that?!" Despite its unassuming appearance from the street, Clarkson's 4,900-square-foot-home has five bedrooms and six bathrooms (see the size in a bird's eye view). It's also located in one of Nashville's ritziest enclaves, Belle Meade, where the median sales price is $420,000, according to data from Trulia.com.

Public records further reveal that Clarkson's asking price isn't that off the mark. In 2009, the market value was accessed at $1,390,800. And since taking possession of the property, the pop star has reportedly made some improvements, such as installing new landscaping and window treatments, adding stainless steel appliances to the kitchen, and tweaking the hue of the hardwood floors. But it doesn't appear -- even with a fifth album due out in early 2011 -- that Clarkson will be long for Music City.That's because the starlet makes her full-time residence at a country estate in Fort Worth, Texas when she's not out on the road. Close to the small town where she was raised, Clarkson owns three-story ranch she calls her "sanctuary" that's situated on more than 50 acres.

With her Nashville crash pad of three years, there are fewer sentimental attachments: Clarkson only lived in the Belle Meade manse occasionally (she originally purchased it in the name of her former manager) and moved out before the place hit the selling block.

I think her place is sweet a different style in each room nice combo. and looks homey to me. To bad she was not able to make use of the home more often. just my opinion

I love the stone on the outside of this home. The only thing I'm not too crazy about are the kitchen cabinets, otherwise, it's a beautiful home.

Good luck getting 600K on this market, not to mention she built it in a neighborhood that the average price of a home is $420,000 LOL typical star mentality, not thinking of what they will do when they have to sell it. LOL.

She lives most of the time in Texas or la la land.I don't like the green kitchen cabinets but love the outside and the teal colored room.

Great house! Love the rooms. The only thing I would really change is that yellow room and the green kitchen cabinets. I would buy it if I had the money and needed a home that large.

Steve, in my area for 250K you'd get a tiny little cookie cutter house with a postage stamp size yard. This house is just beautiful and looks like it's worth every bit the asking price.

Perez Hilton is a parasite who adds nothing of value to anything except some money in his pocket. Yes it is a very beautiful home and apparently worth the money. Perez should to stick to things he is knowledgeable about. Real estate is apparently not his field. Perhaps some pink throw pillows might have changed his mind.

I think it is a beautiful home however; it looks unlived in (probably because it is). Good for her for living close to her roots in Texas. The outside of the house is beautiful and beautifully landscaped.
