Singer George Michael apparently went house-hunting in an exclusive area of Sydney when he was on an extended vacation in Australia earlier this year. The British pop star, who rose to fame in the 1980s as a member of Wham!, plunked down $5 milion for the property (pictured below) in May after staying an extra two months in Oz following his world tour, reported the Daily Express.
The 47-year-old crooner of "Faith" originally planned to stay Down Under for a two-week holiday, reported the Herald Sun.
His new 3-story, 5-bedroom pad, which is perched on a "dramatic headland position overlooking cliffs and crashing waves," is in an exclusive area of Sydney and has a swimming pool, glass wall features, a terrace and a large deck with sea views.
Realestalker recently uncovered photos of the abode, which show that one can see clear through one side of the home and out the other. The blogger reports that the home has a multi-purpose room with a high-pitched ceiling, a fireplace flanked by
"He loves Sydney and plans to split his time between here and London," according to a source quoted in Showbiz Spy.
The singer's Australian pad should be a nice getaway, considering his frequent arrests back in his home country. In August, the 47-year-old was charged with possession of cannabis and driving while unfit through drink or drugs, according to London's Metropolitan Police Service. He was released in October after serving four weeks of his eight-week sentence. He also was found guilty in 2007 of unfit driving through tiredness and prescription medication and received a two-year driving ban, and he was arrested again the following year near Hampstead Heath park in north London and cautioned for possession of a controlled substance, according to CNN.
And it's hard to forget -- as much as we may want to -- his 1998 arrest following his "engaging in a lewd act" in a Beverly Hills public toilet.
Michael currently shares an $8 million home in Highgate, north London, with his longterm partner, Kenny Goss, who was not in Australia when the home was purchased, according to news reports. Before Michael flies out next time, Goss might want to play "Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go."
