House of the Day: Breezy and Breathtaking in Malibu

Not every house in Malibu is beachfront; in fact, some of the nicer ones are off the sand and in the land-side hills overlooking the Pacific. They still get the sea breezes and the vistas are breathtaking -- and the prices tend to reflect their lack of oceanfront status.

With that in mind, we especially like this four-story contemporary now listed at $10.5 million. The 10,114 square-foot home has five bedrooms and eight bathrooms. There is also a one-bedroom guest apartment. There's a step-down living room with a wood-burning fireplace, a media room with built-in controls for the whole house, a library and wine cellar. The gourmet kitchen has stainless steel appliances and maple cabinetry.

But this is mostly a Malibu lifestyle house. Decks, views, fortress-like privacy against those menacing paparazzi, and lots of features for entertaining.

I buy almost everything except food and clothing from online penny auctions. Most people aren't aware of the almost unbelievable deals that they can get from online auction sites. The site that has the biggest selection and the best deals is CheapestPennyAuctions.com and I checked with the Better Business Bureau and was told that it is all legit. How they can sell gift cards, laptops, cameras, and all kinds of goodies that we all want for 50-90% off, I don't know. I do know that I bought my son an iPad there for less than $100 and my husband a $250 Loews gift cards for $48. Why would I even think about shopping anyplace else?

Breathtaking? I don't think so. The whole thing looks completely industrial, like some company's corporate offices. Not a hint of human warmth in the decor. Ugly.

I agree. I prefer homes that have some kind of character, and coming home at the end of the day to something that looks like this seems depressing to look at. I've just been visiting Upstate New York, and some of the historic colonial homes up here, even in bad shape, seem much more "homey" than this cold concrete prison-block-style house.

I agree. Very cold, no feel of the beach but for the view. All that money for the building and near zip for the landscaping. In that climate the options are nearly limitless. The use of water is meager too. A pool, with a few flows into it. The hillside would be ideal for a naturalized water fall. Owners, call me and we will get this straight.

Architectural homes are an aquired taste! This is my second time selling this home and everyone that walks in absolutely loves the views and loves the home. However "traditional mediter." home buyers do not fall in love. This home is for the eccentric, non traditional different, for people that "Think out of the box". This is a "I want to stand out from the rest!!!!!" Gorgeous Home!

I live in Florida and am attracted to these types of homes. This is exactly the style a friend in high school designed and built after he graduated back in 1971, and it struck me as very out-of-the-box at the time, and still does. I agree the views are magnificent. I would look forward to moving from room to room and my mind reeling with imagination. Hey, it's not for everybody and that's why it's unique. Not everyone can afford this, not even myself, but we can dream of such things.

WOW. I love the modernity and the roof top pool overlooking Pacific. The views make you feel like your on the ocean, but with the privacy of a compound. This is how I would want to live in Malibu, private yet not too far from beach or fab shopping.

I have seen many of the modern, "smart houses" on the bluffs in Southern California over the years...this is one of the best! Thanks AOL for posting
