House of the Day: A Palace in Pennsylvania
One of the most expensive -- and extensive -- houses in the Philadelphia area, this behemoth of a home
in Gladwyne, Pa., stretches 22,000 square feet and comes with a price tag of $14.9 million.
With six bedrooms, nine bathrooms and lavish living spaces, there's plenty of room to showcase elaborate interior details, like carved moldings, walnut paneling and acres of travertine flooring. Ceilings are equally over the top, so to speak, including one made of Venetian plaster criscrossed with walnut beams. .
The master wing is positively presidential, with a first-floor "executive office suite," a gym, sauna, steam shower and jacuzzi-furnished conservatory. Upstairs, according to the home's website
, is the "opulent" master suite with sitting area and balcony, and, for spouses who really need their privacy, a "lavish" third-floor retreat.
But Mom and Dad aren't the only ones who get to enjoy amenities including a billiard room and wine cellar. The kiddies get to indulge their own fantasies in the children's wing, which features a basement playroom outfitted with every kid's dream: an ice-cream bar. After their daily root beer floats the lil' scions can work off their sugar rush by going for a swim in the home's glass-enclosed pool.
