When I last saw Elvis at the 7-Eleven, he was wondering how things would have turned out for him if his family hadn't moved from his birthplace in Tupelo, Miss., to Memphis when he was 13. My guess is that he would have been trying to score a job at the new Toyota plant and would have been eyeing this home as his dream house -- although it does lack a Jungle Room.
The absence of an indoor waterfall to suit the King's eclectic tastes notwithstanding, for $1.59 million, this 8,000-square-foot Louisiana plantation-style house in Tupelo -- best known for the singer who left it as a teen-ager -- is yours. The custom-built home has six bedrooms, a pool, spa, outdoor waterfall and a pool house with his and hers bathrooms.
There is 1,600 square feet of covered brick porches with electric screens, plus a media room. The home has antique doors and chandeliers, hand-painted murals and a formal living room with a custom-made mantle on the fireplace, and a wrought-iron staircase. There is also a gift-wrapping closet and a built-in gun safe for those situations where gifts are not the answer.
The seller may be willing to carry the loan.
Listing agent is Brenda Spencer of Coldwell Banker Tommy Morgan Realtors, Tupelo.
