House of the Day: Elvis Almost Slept Here
When I last saw Elvis at the 7-Eleven, he was wondering how things would have turned out for him if his family hadn't moved from his birthplace in Tupelo, Miss.
, to Memphis when he was 13. My guess is that he would have been trying to score a job at the new Toyota plant and would have been eyeing this home as his dream house
-- although it does lack a Jungle Room.
The absence of an indoor waterfall to suit the King's eclectic tastes notwithstanding, for $1.59 million, this 8,000-square-foot Louisiana plantation-style house
in Tupelo -- best known for the singer who left it as a teen-ager -- is yours. The custom-built home has six bedrooms, a pool, spa, outdoor
waterfall and a pool house with his and hers bathrooms.
There is 1,600 square feet of covered brick porches with electric screens, plus a media room. The home has antique doors and chandeliers, hand-painted murals and a formal living room with a custom-made mantle on the fireplace, and a wrought-iron staircase. There is also a gift-wrapping closet and a built-in gun safe for those situations where gifts are not the answer.
The seller may be willing to carry the loan.
