See the Top 10 Real Estate Listings in the Country

As of last week, the median price for a home in the United States was hovering just around $200,000. Depending on where you live, that'll buy you a 5-bed, 4-bath with a sweeping central staircase (Las Vegas -- pictured above), a lakefront house with a pool (Orlando), or a handcrafted cabin in the mountains (Colorado Springs).

At least those are the homes people would buy if they had their druthers. How do we know? They're three of the Top 10 most-viewed real estate listings in the country at the national median price, according to Realtor.com. Wow, that's a good deal. If you happen to have a job that you felt reasonably secure in keeping. However, in this economy, few people have a good job and few people feel confident they are secure in their jobs. Obama is a good politician but not a good leader. Pres. Obama says the banks actions were not criminal. I would say, Pres. Obama is afraid to stand up to the banks. What the banks did was criminal and they are still practicing criminal acts. That's why I don't like Obama. All politicians sell out to the highest bidder.

I disagree. I think Barack Obama is an outstanding leader. He is a man for the people, and we need him to help continue our struggle through the horrendous legacy left us by Pres. Bush.

You think Obama was a sellout - maybe you missed those true colors.
Banks to blame - lot more blame to go around then them. After all most people that are "working hard" to earn a living don't think about how their actions will effect anyone else. They just took a little profit from those who were buying homes, who were then selling them or flipping them to others and all were making that "hard earned" money. While yet more and more jumped on till false demand was way out of line with real demand. Not only this but those who got 0 down, interest only loans for 3 years thanks to another "hard working" group on the house banking committee providing the means and the laws for another "hard working" group at fannie mae and freddie mac to do such things. And the rest of us were in our homes enjoying the benefit of ownership with a mortgage we felt we could pay because in 3 years we would be making another 10k on top of what we are making and the house would appreciate in value and we could then sell it and make a profit, which we would then reinvest as a down payment in a home that we would have some other "hard working" build for us.

Actually, the banks did it at the barrel of a gun. Barney Frank and Chris Dodd introduced legislation to authorize loans to the oppressed minorities and people who cannot afford a house knowing full well that the loans would never be paid back - that is how you get enough votes to win elections. This is called screwing the Country. When the Democrats passed this legislation, the banks had little choice. Wake up and realize that the legislators are screwing the people to win enough votes to win elections. Most people do not have enough foresight to realize or care that the money will (has) run out. Yes, Obama has a hand in this and I loathe the man, but it started long before him with his cohorts. Barney will be reelected again and again because he is bringing home the bacon to Massachussets. Here is your 17 Trillion dollars! That is 17,000,000,000,000! It is 200 acres of one hundred dollar bills 4 feet deep! We are screwed!!! No one is changing their behavior in Washington!!

Give me a break. The problem started with the deregulation of the banking industry thanks to the GOP. The banks caused this problem. They became too big and investment banks started selling derivatives and hybrids. Ever since banks have crossed state lines, they have been screwing ordinary Americans and continue to do so today with all of their fees. They charge you to use your money to make money, clear and simple. Is there any wonder that you can get much better deals from community banks and credit unions? Someone has to pay the outrageous salaries, benefits and retirement benefits of the CEOs of these large banks.

You bet.and selling these junk loans all over the world. Even Clinton with his no documentation loans for minorieties. It started with good ole Jimmy Carter and finished with Clinton. The GOP tried to investigate this mess back in 2005 with NO cooperation from the dems on the financial committe. I can see old Maxine Waters head bobbing back and forth and saying how dare you ask me these questions. She never did either. They knew then the bubble was about to burst and let it happen. The dems took congress in 2006 and that was the end of it. Deregulating the banks did not make this happen. Forcing them to make loans that would be defaulted did. I sure couldn't have bought my home with nothing but a pay stub.

and claims a need.

No, it was the banks who lobbied Congress to "relax regulations" that enabled them to sell the "creative" (and worthless mortgages) to people who could not have EVER possibly have paid for the mortgages. A lot ocf Congress' supposed intent was to prevent the banks from redlining poorer, lower class areas from mortgage approvals . . . then the banks jumped in and exploited the entire market with worthless CDOs, MBS's, LDO's, etc. So, don't try to rationalize that the banks or Wall Street 'insiders were "victims" . . . because they were NOT "victims"; they were caluclating EXPLOITERS of something that they ahd lobbied Congress for.

Joel is exactly, 100% correct!
The American working class is getting thoroughly screwed by the politicians. The more the government spends, the more we all get screwed. The more welfare (although they don't call it that anymore) dollars the politicians give away, the more the productive people in society will suffer. But, the politicians will continue to buy as many votes as they can. They do not care what harm they are causing the citizens or our country. Barney Frank is one of the most notable criminals, but there is plenty of blame to go around.

The problem is and has been the deregulation of the banking industry by the GOP. Banks have become too big. Ever since they have crossed state boundaries they have been screwing the general population. Just look at all of the fees they have been charging. How else to pay for the lavish salaries, benefits and retirement plans of the CEOs of these large hanks. Why is it that small community banks and credit unions can charge little to no fees? The investment banks caused the economic problems of the world by selling derivatives and hybrids. They are raking in billions of dollars and paying 15% income tax at everyone else's expense. Well guess what, the Arab Spring has moved to the US.

Someone that should look at Carter and the Clinton years. Clinton hired good people but didn't do a thing himself. But I say good job. The housing industery needs a closer look at when the breakdown started. Jimmy Carter...The GOP didn't do anything to stop the snowball...All are to blame...

No one is changing their behavior on Wall Street, the Banks or Corporate America either. These institutions have deteriorated into nothing more than skimming machines, creating little or nothing. Bottom line - The pigging out is over, the pig is dead. Most of the wealth has drifted to the top. Once you have most of it there's nothing left to accumulate. Free enterprise, there's nothing free about it. It's hard to be a capitalist when most people don't have capital or have control of it, even their own.

I wish real estate sections would stop showing these cheap houses. Yea, it's a nice house for $200k, but who can sell their house, get a job in Vegas, and buy this one? And other houses they have shown on here, like back east for $30k, that's in the 'hood. Like "they" always say, if it seems too good to be true, it probably is. And buyer beware?
