just my thoughts, nothing pesonal, from a free spirit who sees difrent sides. The majority of our federal money goes to military and defense. So when there is a war it goes away. At the same time people are scared of their government. So they put their money into easily transferable and hidden things like cash and gold, so they can flee. When they feel safe again they will start to reinvest in houses. As far as wealth concentration while we are at war it will always be in weapons oil and big buisness. All areas that are necessary to get the evil doers. We have to pay for weapons to win gas to move our troops and big buisness to supply the effort. As long as they are guarantd those sales then they can continue to price gouge.

ALL I KNOW IS THAT I KEEP WORKING MY A-- OFF IN TWO JOBS FOR THE PAST 9 YEARS TRYING TO PLAY BY THE RULE BOOK I WAS TAUGHT GROWING UP. YOU WORK HARD AND YOU EARN YOUR RIGHT TO MOVE AHEAD IN THIS WORLD. IN TH MEAN TIME, I GET A BILL FROM THE GOVERNMENT IN APRIL SAYING I OWE 24,000 DOLLARS SO THAT THEY CAN SUPPORT THE REST OF THE POPULATION WHO THINK THEY ARE ENTITLED TO EVERYTHING. THIS MEANS FROM HEALTHCARE, FOOD, RENT AND AN EDUCATION. IN MY BOOK NOTHING HAS COME FREE AND I DON'T UNDERSTAND A SOCIETY THAT ENABLES A WHOLE CLASS OF CITIZENS THAT BELIEVE THEY ARE ENTITLED TO ANYTHING WHEN THEY ARE UNWILLING TO WORK FOR IT. THESE ARE THE PEOPLE THAT PUT OBAMA IN OFFICE BECAUSE THEY KNEW HE WOULD PAVE THE WAY FOR MORE FREEBIES AT THE DEMISE OF PEOPLE WHO WORK HARD TO DO IT THE RIGHT WAY. I do not know much about politics, but you can not exactly blame it on minorities and the housing industry. I have not looked it up, but I will speculate that most of the homes in foreclosure are at least 150,000+, and many 200,000+. This would be way out of the range for minorities. I purchased my home at a discount 3 years ago in the 90's and I made in the middle income. It is very difficult to believe minorities are purchasing homes for more than 125,000 much less 100,000. America continues to build mostly homes that are 200,000 plus, and are not exactly affordable where couples are both making middle incomes; then, they are allowed to purchase a 40,000 car, max credit cards to 25000 - 50000, etc., and also purchase a boat. Yes, there could be a problem with the banks lending to phonies who really do not have the income, and denying those who can actually somehow pay back the loan.

I do not believe we exactly live beyond are means. The people who are making 7 dollars a hour live 10-20 a home. When I first started in construction in 1990, I would stay on rainy days to pump water while all the illegals, hispanics and foreigners went home. I am mostly of white descent. The others that stayed and pumped water were black. I am amazed at how much beer they can drink and party until 3:ooam. It takes atleast 4 years before the police will make them stop.

The discussion about banks is relative but it is not the whole picture of our country's dilemma! Even if banks did the right thing, they don't and can't create enough jobs to replace the ones lost to China, Japan, India etc. Yes, banks loan money to businesses to expand & hire employees but what makes you think many businesses desire to hire when they can maintain & increase profits by cutting jobs and relocating overseas. Purchasing a home is a personal choice regardless of one's income; we have less access to meaningful jobs and therefore can't afford to buy homes because of selfish & greedy business decisions coupled with political power-brokering amongst all of the players-many who are the same business people who sent the jobs over seas in the first place. Why do you continually "put the fox in the hen house" when they have already told and proven to you what they plan to do when in office? How stupid are we Americans?
No matter who is in power in D.C., until they start telling you the truth about what ails us and taking some specific steps to turn the tide in the interest of the masses, we will continue to bicker and fight among ourselves over politicians just to feel better while nothing gets better for the average American...YOU NEED TO START READING THE FINE PRINT not just of banks but also of those who profess to represent you.

Funny thing, I buy much better homes in California for less or about the same money with no money down and have all payments paid by someone else. People needs to learn how to buy with Owner Finance and Lease programs so the payments are paid by someone else. I have bought beautiful Victorians, ranch homes and even two houses on one property and been paid to take them with a contract Sale.
There are many owner's who will help you save their Credit and buy their homes by selling it to you and carrying a Mortagage on it and you taking it over and many times rebuy it back at a profit to you.

Here is a thought people. The banks loaned to people that they knew couldn't afford the payment. They knew what they were doing. When I bought my house my wife and I sat down and figured out our bills. Then we figured out what we would need to do the things we like to be able to do. After that we figured out what we could realistically afford for a home and how much we could afford for a mortgage payment and insurance. Once we had this all figured out, we went to a financial loan specialist and told him what our budget was and that we didn't want to get buried. As we proceeded with the buying process, the financial "specialist" tried to tell us that we could move up to a bigger home in a more affluent neighborhood if we wanted to. The funds would be there for us if we wanted them. I'm not the only one I know that was offered this type of a way to buy a house. This was in 2004 and it continued until the bubble burst in 2007. We could have very easily jumped chest deep in to a loan with an income that was only waist deep and buried ourselves. We chose, quite wisely I might add, to stay within our means and live in an environment that fit our means. I have seen at least 10 families that I know that went for the big house and are now either struggling to pay the mortgage and have no real type of life outside their home, or are on the verge of or been through foreclosure. The banks were giving bad advice so that they could, had the economy not taken the dump it did, reap the benefits of the bigger interest payments they would have drawn on bigger loans. The crash was inevitable. Meanwhile as I stated earlier, my wife and I quite wisely bought a smaller house in a less affluent neighborhood. The reason this was wise is I have since lost my job and we can still afford to keep our home. We have just had to learn to budget money differently and not go out as much as we used to. This is how most people should have thought instead of acting on the same greed that the banks were loaning on. It's hard to pay $2400.00 a month for a home when you have a job. Even if you make 80,000 a year. It's even harder to pay that same $2,400 when you are unemployed as has become the case for almost 10% of the people in this country. Bottom line, the next time you go to make a big investment, meaning a new house, a car, or whatever, remember, you have to be able to pay for it whether you work or not so plan ahead and always be ready for the unexpected. You'll do well to cover your butt. The bank won't be there to cover it for you but they will be there to kick it when you can't make the payment. If someone tells you the banks aren't greedy, they're lying. The banks are a legal criminal empire. They convince you to deposit your money in their institution so they can invest it and make themselves more money, then they charge YOU to use YOUR OWN money when you need to take it out if you do it electronically. They pay the lowest interest they can if you put it in their bank to save it and then when push comes to shove if you get in to trouble, they charge you ridiculous fees if you overdraft your checking account. These are the same people that issue credit cards at between 16 and 22% interest. They are not your friend and never will be. They are legal loan sharks. The only difference between them and the mob is they don't come out an shoot you. They send the sheriff to your house and evict you. LIVE WITHIN YOUR MEANS! You'll be a much happier person.

As a senior citizen of this country, I have seen politicans do anything to win an election, lying, cheating, taking money from the very people they condemn in public, etc. etc. What always amazes me is that people never callthem to task and learn the real truth. We are to blame for most of this current mess. We kept electing these greedy people and allowed them to deceive us. Then, as I read these previous comments, everyone acts like an expert and like the politians blame everyone else when things go bad.Thank God for some of you like Joel, Bob, Rory and Gladiatorist who see through the smoke and deal with the real history of events. So what has happend The american Home owner is now a renter and now the homeowners that lost their houses get to pay for the bail out of the banking fiasco .Banks and or the banking investment syndicate owns the real estate Banks not only get their money back but also get the real estate too. think about it. Why didnt the Guys in charge subsidize the homeowners monthly payment for couple of years instead of take hundreds of thousands of dollars in losses like just on one house . They could have easily stoped the freefall of values by helping with payments on those in default instead of wasting money paid .
