House of the Day: Historic Home of 'American Horror Story'

While this historic, red brick property isn't a real horror house, its claim to fame is still the bloodshed that went down within its walls -- though scripted.

This 15,000 square foot, single-family home in Los Angeles is most famous for being the house in which the new FX television series "American Horror Story" is set. The six-bedroom, five-bathroom property was designed by celebrated architect Alfred Rosenheim (designer of iconic Los Angeles monuments such as the Hellman Building, the Hamburger Department Store, and the Eugene W. Britt House). It's been off the market since August for filming -- but is set to come back on early in 2012.

Its most recent listing price was $10 million, but a representative at its real estate agency says the house will be have a lowered price. (That's also the current information on the website listing).

Details such as stained-glass windows, silver and gold leaf hand-painted ceilings, Tiffany stained glass windows, rich wood paneling and six stunning vintage fireplaces make it not-your-average L.A. mansion. So unique, in fact, that it's been declared a Los Angeles Cultural Monument.

Joe Babajian of Joe Babajian Real Estate has the listing.

CORRECTION: An earlier version of this post suggested that this house is currently on the market, priced at $4.5 million.
