Bank of America Accused of Discriminating Against Disabled

How about we sue AOL for discriminating against Republicans and Fox for discriminating against Democrats. How about suing the courts and cops for discriminating against crooks? Lets sue gays for discriminating against straights. How about suing cat owners for discriminating against dogs? Why do we give these money grubbers the forum for their phony rants?

ok i'm confused. i had to prove MY income which yes included VA disability and yes that meant provided documentation that PROVED I GOT THAT AND i had to prove that i was ELIGIBLE for VA loan to get a mortgage. does that mean i too was discriminated against? and NO it was NOT BofA. it was the VA AND THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT.

Well, B of A can't possibly loan to well deseving citizens of the US while they are putting butt broke welfare stealing illegal immigrants into homes that they cannot afford past two months of payment.

BoA's statements seem incorrect. FAIR housing guidlines are National regulations. There should not be any additional regulation depepnding on where you live, since they are already national regs. The penalties are also supposed to increase based on the number of offenses. Just a slap on the wrist for BoA.

Even though it is wrong to discriminate on the basis of disability, it is also wrong not to discriminate on one's ability to repay the loan. We have already been through this. The government made companies give loans to people who did not qualify under the threat of discrimination law suits. Will the government ever learn from past mistakes or is it so driven by ideology that it cannot correct itself?

Not surprised, the only people they don't discriminate against are the rich white guys. I live in Charlotte and I'd keep my money in a coffee can in the back yard before I'd use B of A.

Everyone has to provide proof of their income to obtain a loan. Living off disability payments the banks need to know if you are really disabled and receiving payments because of that and not being fraudulent which only last so long before it catches up with you and your done. They are experts in fraud and lying, they just don't realize they too will be done soon.

As someone who worked for them in 2009, their FHA standards were more stringent than the standard. Discrimination based on race, creed, etc wasn't present though. 90% of denials were based on debt-to-income ratios. The remaining 10% came simply due to loan-to-value ratios, credit issues, or a recent late mortgage payment. Numbers don't lie in those ratios and all FHA lenders are still held to a minimum standard on the customer's credit history. The real issue to worry about BofA is that their mortgage offices are now run by ex-Counrywide sales managers and a slue of sales managers from other sub-prime institutions. These were the same "sweat shop" guys that destroyed the mortgage finance business a few years back. Remember those guys? Get ready for when they pressure your grandmother into an ARM.

They have done this since Day one and gotten away with it ever since so who do we blame BOA or the Goverment for taking so long to open there Eyes!

Before I was able to secure a mortgage, I was required,at length, to prove not only my income, but that there was a reasonable chance that my income was stable, and was going to continue in the future.
Going through the VA, I also had to prove I was a veteran, entitled to a loan through them.
Believe me, they looked at my financial situation with a magnifying glass, and every possible question was asked before I could secure the financing.
The way I saw it was, that after the recent mortgage fiasco, the lenders were more than likely trying to cover their butts..(as in, I wasn't going to default in 3 months time, leaving someone holding the proverbial bag).
In many cases, disability claims are reviewed, and discontinued. I realize that's the same as someone losing their source of income if it comes from working.
I guess my point, if I even have one is, if the lenders had scrutinized every loan application in the past as thoroughly as mine was checked, there would have been quite a bit fewer defaults.
Just because they go over your application with a fine tooth comb doesn't make it discrimination. Maybe they are just trying to avoid another housing crisis.

Bank of America not only discriminates against @#$%$^@$!@# but against honest citizens that through no fault of their own lost a love one who also had an account tagged with them,then the acct closes and it remained in a small bal of 300. I went to pay the bal. but I was told to wait 5 years before i can open a new acct. Ok, so I'm banned for the next five years before I can open and acct with them! because they have set a policy! How can they stay in business with such arrogancy! Ps I paid the bal in full but I already had an acct. with Bank atlantic where I'm treated like a customer! The only reason I wanted an acct with them was so that I can transfer funds with my wife at 1 branch. Now after 20 years my wife is changing banks.. boo boo to bank of america shame! shame! Terrible banking procedures!!!! Wait now I am also blackballed and redflagged so that all the other financial institutions be on the lookout for me! Im glad I stuck with my instition!

Sounds like a clear case of extortion by the Obama administration.

"If" they had been doing this all along the housing crisis would not have happened. Discrimination IS a critical part of good business practices. HUD, Fannie, and Freddie forced the banks to lend and now complain about it?
