Soar to fame in the Hamptons by bagging a piece of real estate that'll set you apart from all the other trophy-home-toting vacationers in Montauk, N.Y.: an airport.
That's right: For $18 million, you can buy the right to land your private jet in complete privacy.
Nestling into 1,000 acres of reserve, the airport, located three miles outside Hamptons hotspot Montauk, N.Y., sprawls across 37 acres and boasts a 3,200-foot runway. But don't expect anything plush in the way of accommodations: Right now, the property offers just a main office with one bathroom for possible use as living quarters. It also comes with one permanent and four portable hangars.
Though many well-heeled locals might wince at that thought, the property has ample conversion potential. Its zoning designation permits single-family homes.
Realtor Ronald White, who is handling the listing, told East Hampton Patch that the airport could be carved up into as many as six lots. "I think [the] common goal is to preserve the property being airport.... But the other option is to subdivide it and to residentialize."
In the month that it's been on the market, the property has received interest from visitors who fly in and out of the airport, East Hampton Patch reported.
