It is on a day like Friday, with Facebook's share sales heading towards $16 billion that Los Altos landlord Judy Fusco might have been wishing that she asked for Mark Zuckerberg's $5,500 a-month rent in stock, instead.

But in September 2004, she was just trying to recoup the $1 million she had sunk into building a five-bedroom house near the Los Altos Golf & Country Club that had been beset by delays and permit complications. The Thai-born Fusco had hopefully brought Buddhist monks from Buddhanosorn Temple in Fremont to bless the home a few weeks earlier.

"What is 'Thefacebook?'" she asked, when she looked at the name on the $10,000 check her prospective tenant handed her for the security deposit.

Casa Facebook There was a time, indeed, when that question was perfectly understandable.

Her new tenant, a 20-year-old kid in shorts and flip-flops, "suddenly stood up very straight" and transformed into a different person, she said.

"He looked right at me with those baby-blue eyes," she said, and he spoke for 10 minutes. "He said they were going to build a network that would change the world." The kid had something, she thought.

For the next six months, she writes in her book, "Casa Facebook," she watched, as the trio she dubbed the "Three Musketeers," slept late and worked all night. During that time Facebook scaled from 200,000 members to 2.5 million.

They coined the "Casa Facebook" name, she said. The pale blue home at the end of a narrow street in unincorporated Los Altos was the nerve center, party house and headquarters of the social network that did, indeed help change the world, she thinks, looking at Egypt.

The mid-century-styled home of the late President Gerald R. Ford and his wife is up for sale for $1.699 million, a Realtor announced today.

The 6,316-square-foot estate in Palm Desert looks over the 13th fairway of the Thunderbird Country Club, and served as the California retreat for the couple after leaving they left the White House, according to Realtor Nelda Linsk of HK Lane Real Estate.

Former First Lady Betty Ford died last year, at the age of 93. President Ford passed away Dec. 26, 2006 at the age of 93.

The industry guideline is that usually mortgages should not exceed 75 percent of the appraised value of a property, according to mortgage experts. The assessed value of Santorum's Great Falls home, which is set by Fairfax County, has fallen since Santorum bought it in 2007.

Property values have fallen throughout the Virginia county -- even in the wealthiest communities of McLean and Great Falls -- because of the recession.

The IRS has filed a $531,720 federal tax lien against model and actress Christie Brinkley's Brick Kiln Road estate in Bridgehampton, according to Suffolk County clerk records.

Brinkley has had liens filed against her in the past from private companies, but this is the first tax lien for her in Suffolk, according to county records. Past liens have been from pool and landscaping companies.

Brinkley owns multiple parcels in the Hamptons, where she is frequently seen at fundraising events.

According to the IRS website, a notice of federal tax lien may only be filed after the target has been notified of the tax liability and neglected or refused to fully pay the debt within 10 days.

The lien was filed Nov. 21.

Brinkley did not immediately reply to a request for comment Friday afternoon.

Hauling several bags of garbage left at a foreclosed Bank of America property in Malden, dozens of protesters showed up at bank president Robert Gallery's Beacon Hill home Wednesday to dump the trash and unload fury.

"We're here today because of the loan-servicing abuse that's going on in America," Antonio Ennis, of Dorchester, announced through a bullhorn in front of Gallery's 95 Beacon St. home before listing demands the bank must meet to avoid a large protest scheduled at their downtown headquarters Sept. 30.Demands include that the bank:

* Halt all foreclosures and evictions until underwater mortgages can be renegotiated.
* Stop the crackdown on small business lending.
* Rescind its proposed mass layoffs and take steps to protect and create Massachusetts jobs.
* End its board members' policies that exclude Bay State families from key programs like weatherization.

The trash deposited in front of Gallery's home came from a property that has remained vacant for a year at 56 Clinton St., Malden. Bank of America evicted a young family from the house last year and, neighbors say, let the property fall into disrepair. The city fined the bank $500 for keeping the property vacant.

A dozen or so volunteers gathered 10 bags of garbage from the property Monday and delivered it to Bank of America's Malden branch office. The bank manager refused to accept it, so they decided to take it to Gallery's Beacon Hill home.
